Rain Unable to Dampen Spirits at 2007 Fall Classic
The 2007 Fall Classic was shortened due to rain, but it didn't seem to put a damper on the fun. In fact, during Monday's rain delay with most everyone gathered in Dennis' and Perry's room (despite the fact that it was a little untidy at best), Birk (a.k.a "The Red Captain") may have defined what The Fall Classic is all about. It was getting close to dinner time and Birk wanted to leave the room to take a shower; however, his first several attempts to leave were foiled by the start of yet another funny story. Finally, Birk issued the following Gag Order, "You can keep talking, just don't say anything funny until I get back." When he returned about 15 minutes later, he said that he could hear the laughter coming from the room from across the compound. Nice try Red Captain.
Ray C. wins the Individual Championship
The Individual Championship was shortened to 54 holes, and the winner was Ray C. with a winning score of -5. Frank finished second at +1, and Birk and Dennis finished tied for third at +2. Ray shot rounds of 76 (E), 75 (-1), and 72 (-4). His last round included 5 birdies. This was Ray's second victory in The Fall Classic, as he also won in 2001. Frank was very steady with rounds of 82(-1), 84(+1), and 84(+1). Birk was the first round leader with a score of 82(-3).
Red Team edges Blue team for the Captains' Cup
In the Captains' Cup, the Red Team defeated the Blue Team 243 to 236. The Blue Team led by Perry (a.k.a "El Capitan") got off to a big 20 point lead after the first round. Prior to the Sunday matches, in what may have been the turning point of the entire event, the Red Team received a strong verbal tongue lashing from their emotional leader Ray H. The Red Team responded with a huge victory in the Sunday matches and actually took a 9 point lead into Monday. Another explanation for this huge Red Team victory may also have been the fact that Red Team member, "The Jap", was seen giving some lessons to several of the Blue Team members before the start of Sunday's round. Heavy rains on Monday afternoon meant that the third round had to be completed early on Tuesday. The Blue Team rallied and closed the gap to just 5 points entering the final 9 hole 3/3/3 matches. The final matches were all closely contested, and the Red Team held off the Blue Team for a 7 point victory. Congratulations to the Red Team on a hard-fought victory.
