The Fall Classic 2010 - Pre-Tournament Preparations
Red Team Makes Eleventh Hour Roster Move
"The Bubba Factor"
In what may be the biggest late season acquisition since the Phillies traded for Cliff Lee, the Red Team made a major move late last week by obtaining the services of "Bubba". Fall Classic analyst Deano calls Bubba's swing "a little unorthodox", but admits "Oh, he likes it though". Some critics may view this as a move of desperation, but the Red Team feels that this is exactly what is needed to ensure certain victory over the Blue Team in this year's Captains' Cup. The crack staff at Fall Classic Films worked late into the night to uncover some never before released video that shows exactly what is in store for the Blue team, and it seems clear that this is going to be the move to put the Red Team over the top in this year's competition. At the end of the highlights, you can also see how Bubba uses the "Josey Wales" spit technique to intimidate his opponents. Just another classy guy on the Red Team. Glad to have you Bubba. To make room on their roster, the Red Team had to release Rick (or maybe he just got a better offer from another group). Actually, Rick won his flight last weekend in the state tournament on the Louisiana Amateur Golf Tour, and he is headed to Hilton Head this weekend to lead Louisiana's D Flight contingent in the national tournament. Reports have it that Rick swept to victory with rounds of 90-97. Congratulations and best of luck to Rick this weekend (albeit in a second rate tournament when compared to The Fall Classic).
In somewhat unrelated news, the few remaining "non-Peyton" members of the Red Team, in a show of solidarity, are considering changing their last name to Peyton (they are also hoping that this will get Perry to put up their entry fee).
New from The Fall Classic Video Archives...
"You Da Jap"
Jerry receives a little encouragement from the crowd on #9 on the Green course. Looks like Perry was supporting Breast Cancer awareness before it was cool to do so.It is believed that this video was shot in the fall of 1991.

Pre-Classic Meeting held at T.D.'s
T.D. once again hosted a fine Pre-Classic meeting, including lots of great food and drink, lots of discussion on handicaps, some great old stories, and watching a no-hitter being thrown in the NLDS. I would like to say that those of you not able to attend got screwed on your handicaps, but it was actually the reverse. No one at the meeting had their handicap adjusted (from the original as defined by the committee); however, many others were increased a stroke or two. Seemed to me that the Blue team received much more favorable consideration when adjusting the handicaps (which team is the handicap committee on?). In what appeard to be a nice move by the handicap committee, they (he) made it appear as if Perry was actually on the committee, but to everyone but Perry, it was pretty obvious that this was just a ploy.

Thursday Matches Selected
Also at the Pre-Classic meeting, the Captains' Cup teams for the Thursday afternoon matches were selected. The format for the Thursday matches is 2-Man Best Ball Net. Red Captain, Big Ray, went first and threw out the dynamic Denham duo of PP and RV. Blue Captain "The Salamander" responded by putting himself and MS on the board (I guess that Sal forgot how bad RV waxed him the last time that they played together). As the selections continued, it become obvious that the Red Team has a real leader, and the Blue Team is just a "puppet regime". At times it appeared as if Captain Salamander was talking, but I swear that we could see T.D.'s lips moving. All of the match-ups are shown below.

The Fall Classic Modified Calcutta
The 2010 Fall Classic will once again feature the Modified Calcutta.
The total pot for the Calcutta is $200.
Each participant will have ownership in two golfers:
- Yourself
- Free pick (you can pick anyone in the field that you think might win the Championship, picks will be made prior to the first tee time on Thursday)
# of people picking winner | Champ's Share | Picker's Share |
---|---|---|
0 | $200.00 | - |
1 | $100.00 | $100.00 |
2 | $100.00 | $50.00 each |
3 | $100.00 | $33.33 each |
4 | $100.00 | $25.00 each |
Example #1:
Pat wins the Championship. No one picked him with their pick. The pot would be split based on zero people picking the winner:
- Pat (Champ's share) : $200.00
Example #2:
Pat wins the Championship. Mike and Perry picked Pat to win with their pick. Therefore the pot would be split based on two people picking the winner:
- Pat (Champ's share) : $100.00
- Mike (Picker's share) : $50.00
- Perry (Picker's share) : $50.00
Example #3:
Pat wins the Championship. Mike, Perry, and Pat picked Pat (you can pick yourself). Therefore the pot would be split based on three people picking the winner:
- Pat (Champ's share + Picker's share) : $100.00 + $33.33 = $133.33
- Mike (Picker's share) : $33.33
- Perry (Picker's share) : $33.33
